The Eurasian nutcracker is a songbird from the family of the ravens. He lives almost exclusively from the seeds of the Swiss stone pine as well as his offspring is fed with it. In purpose to get enough food all year round, he hides the seeds in summer and autumn with his beak in the ground. Since he no longer finds all of them (about 20%), he contributes an important contribution to the propagation of the Swiss pine trees. The Eurasian nutcracker has been protected in Switzerland since 1967!
