The essential oils can be considered as the soul of plants. Hidden in them is the subtle, the invisible, which can be perceived with our sense of smell.
The most important methods for the recovery of essential oils, used for healing purposes, are steam distillation and squeezing.
The squeezing is particularly suitable for the production of citrus oils. The shell of lemons, bitter oranges, bergamot, mandarin et cetera consist of a very complex molecular structure.
Steam distillation is the most common type. The plant substances are spread over a steam source, thus the steam flow will split their tissues and thereby extracts the fat-soluble and volatile substances.
